PWC Clubhouse Update 5/10/2021

Dear DUC and DSBC Members

There was a very favourable response to last week’s geography lesson on local wind conditions and Rob from Cape Town suggested that members also check out this web site (not an app): http://fred.csir.co.za/windnet/d.html

This site gives a live speed and direction of the wind from various SA locations. Once you open it through a web browser on your phone or PC simply save it to your desktop or phone front page as an icon. You would look for the live wind data for Durban South Breakwater.

Another member suggested that as part of helping members assess the beach conditions and all sea activities, you can check out the Durban beachfront web cams on the following link: https://www.oceaneye.co.za

In case you missed it, copies of our past newsletters can be found on our website: https://pwsc.co.za/news/

LEVEL 1 COVID protocols around the clubhouse.

Although we can now accommodate more members inside and outside the clubhouse, please note that this means that the number of members inside the clubhouse is still determined by the available space taking into account the required 1.5m social distancing guideline. Mask wearing is still compulsory around the clubhouse.

We recommend that members continue to make extensive use of the outside areas of the club as well as the beach to stay safe and socially distance while enjoying the club.

What’s Happening at the Club:

Happy Hour: Wednesdays and Thursdays 5pm to 6pm. 30% off members drink prices excluding soft drinks.

Surf Ski Storage racks available

Now that most ski storage rack holders have paid their annual fees, several surf ski racks and a very limited number SUP racks (3) have become available for hire. Normal rack fees are R850 per annum and the top rack (A) level rates are R425 per annum.

The top racks are ideal for those who use their skis infrequently and are looking to get their skis out of the house.

Sodwana SCUBA Dive trip 11th to 14th November

On this weekend, the club divers will be heading to Coral Divers for some tropical diving on the famous and extensive Sodwana Reefs. This is also an opportunity for the club divers to go away together and do some of bonding by getting to know each other a bit better rather than just at dive briefings and on the boat trips to and from the dive sites as normally happens.

For any queries or if you would like to join the trip, you can contact Bryan Hart: bryanh@nedbank.co.za / 0788031235. Please see attachment for details
Second Hand 40hp Yamaha outboard motor looking for a mate

The Durban Undersea Club recently replaced the outboard motor on the club safety boat. The original 40hp, two stroke Yamaha motor is in running condition but on the old side. The motor can be viewed at the club. Any reasonable offers will be considered, and the motor will be sold voetstoots.

Please contact Paul: gm@pwsc.co.za for more details
We look forward to seeing you at the club
