PWC Clubhouse Update – 17/08/2021

Dear DUC and DSBC Members

In the early 1980’s the water sports clubs that were situated at Vetchs beach were given notice by Portnet that the state-owned land on which they were situated had been sold to a development consortium that included the municipality and private investors. They were subsequently warned by the developers that in the project planned, there would not be space for all the clubs that existed at the time to have individual clubhouses within the development and that they would need to start making plans to amalgamate and share clubhouse facilities.

And so followed almost 40 years of uncertainty, in fighting, legal battles , changes of plan and drama that eventually resulted in November 2020 of the opening of The Point Water Sports Club facility to accommodate the DSBC and DUC. It is testimony to the dedication of the past and current club committees, the continued and loyal support of the respective clubs’ membership as well as the commitment of the developers that this was achieved.

Year 1 AD ( After Drama) for PWC Clubs and membership availability

The 1st of August 2021 marked the beginning of the first “full” year in the new clubhouse facility and the start of a new era for the clubs. The popularity of the new clubhouse has been demonstrated by the fact that membership of the clubs was fully subscribed during the 2020/21 membership year despite COVID, clubhouse closure and financial difficulties experienced by many members over this period.

As the clubs traditionally receive resignations due to a variety of reasons at the start of each new club year, memberships are currently available to both clubs but due to continued strong support by existing members, available spaces are limited.
Should you know of anyone interested in joining the club, now is the opportunity to do so and you start by emailing jackie@pwsc.co.za and request an application form.

Membership renewals

Part of the process of accommodating both DUC and DSBC under one roof was to bring each club’s membership policies and pricing in line so that there would not be an advantage of belonging to one club over the other as members of both clubs now enjoy the same clubhouse facilities.

This has affected DSBC members in particular as the membership renewal date for DSBC was moved forward last year to 1st August. It is apparent from our communications with DSBC members that many are under the impression that they still have until end October / November to settle their fees for the 2021/22 membership year.

PLEASE NOTE: The membership year expires 31st July for both clubs and ALL members have 30 days to settle their fees for 2021/22 with payment deadline being 31st August 2021.

Membership accounts with outstanding amounts reflected against them on the 1st September 2021 will be deactivated which means membership cards will no longer allow access or till transactions.

Please email your membership account query to jackie@pwsc.co.za

Membership Payments through MyClubAccount app

Although club members can still pay subs by EFT or with credit card at the club office, the preferred method of payment is with credit card via the online MyClubAccount facility that is available to all members. If you do make your membership payment through MyClubAccount you will see the details of your membership fees due on the payment portal.

Guides on how to register and use MyClubAccount are attached as well as who you should contact should you have issues using the payment facility.

Clubhouse Payments through MyClubAccount

Members can also use the MyClubAccount app to top up their Food & Beverage accounts. This means that they will only need to carry their membership card to make payments when coming to the club as they can have funds loaded on their membership card to enable F&B purchases. Once loaded these funds are instantly available for members to use with no clearance waiting period. This means you can top your card up through the MyClubAccount app while at the club after your kids have emptied your account.

As the clubhouse currently has poor cellular signal and no optic fibre connection as yet, one of the biggest delays that causes long queues is the amount of time it takes to authorise credit card transactions at the tills. The more members that make use of the MyClubAccount facility to make purchases around the clubhouse, the quicker the queues will move as no authorisation time is needed.
