Dear DUC and DSBC Members

The first of three long weekends due over the next month is upon us and we are expecting a bumper weekend at the club with live music, a fishing competition and World Water Day happening at the club.

The club hours this coming long weekend are as per normal with the only change being that the club will be open on Monday for the same hours as per a Sunday (kitchen closes early).

Club Entertainment

If you would like to be kept informed of the entertainment and social activities of the club, member Lizell Bright has set up a WhatsApp group to notify fellow members of what’s on socially at the club so you can plan your social life.

Live Music This Weekend

On Friday 19th March DJ SBI TECHN will be entertaining members from4.30pm to8pm
HAPPY HOUR is from 4pm to 6pm every Friday

On Sunday 21st March, the SITUATION band will be playing from 1pm to 5pm

Over and Unders Fishing Comp sponsored by CMH Nissan / Mitsubishi Pinetown

At this stage it looks as if this comp will be held on Monday 22nd March but this will be confirmed on Friday morning and posted on the DSBC Facebook page and relevant WhatsApp groups

For those of you in the dark as to what “over and unders” means, it is where the over 45 yrs old compete with the under 45 yrs old to catch the biggest fish. To date it seems that sage experience has always trumped youthful energy – will this year be any different?

Rules:

• Entry is on the day and is R100 per angler
• Registration starts at 4.30am and first launch is at 5am
• Scales close 1pm and biggest fish in catch to be weighed
• Prizes for biggest fish
• No ladies or under 18’s

World Water Day

Although the water concerned here is fresh water, the club supports having cleaner, less polluted rivers entering the oceans which in turn affects the quality of our ocean experiences.

On Saturday and Sunday, the SANParks volunteer team will be visiting the club to promote World Water Day. A big part of water conservation is determined by trees and the SANParks team along with Twinstreams Indigenous Nursery will have display on suitable plants and trees that promote water conservation. There will be plants available to purchase and some endangered Pepper Bark trees will be given away to good homes

We encourage you to bring your children along as the SANParks volunteers are passionate about raising awareness amongst our youth, fostering a love of nature and inspiring them to take an active interest in nature conservation.

Security at the club

The boardwalk area in front of the club house is a public through fare and as such beggars, con artists and hawkers make use of this to approach members sitting on the outside benches for handouts and to solicit business or to look for opportunities to latch on to unattended personal items. In these difficult times, this is a sensitive issue and with such a large membership there many differing views on how this situation should be handled.

By supporting the hawkers and beggars requests, we will only encourage them to come back. However, if you decide to turn down their approaches please be polite and respectful and be mindful of the image you are projecting as a club member when doing so.
